How to Shred
Home Shredder – The first line of defense is to have a reliable shredder in your home. At minimum use a cross-cut (vs. long strips). They start as low as $25.
Free Shredding Events – The good news is that many communities now offer these events to their residents. You bring your documents to a central location and can usually stay and watch your documents get shredded. To find a shredding event in your area – contact your municipal office or go online and look for “Your town” free shredding event.
Drop Off Shredding – If there is no shredding event in your community, you don’t have a shredder of your own, or simply don’t have the time to shred it all yourself – you can always drop it off. Staples and Office Depot are two resources for drop-off shredding.
Are you keeping every single bill, statement, tax return, insurance policy, medical document, etc.? You aren’t alone. A Retention Guideline will help you know what to keep and what it’s safe to toss.
